Super calender with three rolls 50FCF-200E

Calendering is performed in the finishing process of raw paper or coated paper. This process gives gloss to paper surface, improves smoothness and adjusts sheet thickness. Various mechanical constructions and roll composition are used for specific purposes. They are classified broadly into three kinds of combination: metal and metal rolls (machine calender), metal and elastic rolls (super calender), and metal and resin rolls (soft or gloss calender). It is desirable to select a test calender most suitable for the intended purpose, considering many items including material used, paper width, linear pressure, temperature, pressurizing method, heating method, sheet paper or continuous paper.

Feature

  1. In the KRK test calender, the bearing case on each side of the top roll is supported by a pin joint. The friction area is smaller than that of the vertical sliding support system. This design avoids uneven pressure between nips on both sides, constantly applying stable pressure on the test sheet.
  2. With the conventional machine calender, forced driving of the top and bottom rolls are performed by gear transmission. This results in weaker nip on the gear side, causing uneven pressure distribution. The KRK calender uses, instead of the direct gear drive, a special driving system and a unidirectional clutch. This design ensures smooth operation with stable nip, both in forced driving (non-contact between upper and lower rolls) and driven operation (contact between upper and lower rolls).
  3. When a machine calender is used for adjusting sheet thickness, a clearance setting system is necessary. The KRK calender is designed with a roll interstice adjusting system; setting on a gauge of 0.01 mm increment ensures correct pressing.
  4. An offset device of top roll self-weight makes it possible to provide an accurate linear pressure as set on the pressure gauge on the control panel.
  5. The sheet calender is provided with a specimen introducing device below the bottom roll. The bottom specimen turns around the bottom roll to be introduced into the roll nip and pressed to be sent forward. Both upper and lower rolls turn outward on the operation side, avoiding potential of finger pinch, so operation can be safely done by one operator.
  6. Well arranged heaters ensure uniform heating temperature of the rolls, without temperature difference in different parts, center and both sides.
