A borescope (sometimes called boroscope) is an optical device consisting of a rigid or flexible tube to the eyepiece on one end, the objective lens on the other hand are connected by a relay optical system. The optical system is usually surrounded by optical fibers used for illumination of the remote object. An internal image of the object formed by the objective lens illuminated and magnified by the lens of the eye which presents the viewer's eyes.
Function Borescopes are used for inspection work where the area to be inspected is inaccessible by other means. Similar devices for use in the human body known as endoscopy. Borescopes are mostly used in non-destructive testing techniques to identify defects or imperfections. Borescopes are used to perform this type of visual inspection.
Borescopes are commonly used in visual inspection of aircraft engines, aeroderivative industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel engines and automotive engines and trucks. Gas and steam turbines require special attention because of safety and maintenance requirements.
Borescope inspection of the machine can be used to prevent unnecessary treatments, which can be very expensive for large turbines. They are also used in the manufacture of machinery parts or cast to inspect the interior surface is important for burrs, surface finish or finish through the hole. Other common uses include forensic applications in law enforcement and building inspection, and in gunsmithing to check the interior bore firearms.
Video borescopes A video borescope or "camera inspection" is similar to the flexible borescope but using a miniature video camera on the end of a flexible tube. The end of the insertion tube includes a light that allows it to capture video or still images deep in equipment, machinery and other dark spaces. As a tool for remote visual inspection capability to capture video or stills for further examination is a big advantage. A display in the handle shows the camera view, and the display position can be changed via the control joystick or similar control.
Due to the complex optical waveguide replaced with electric cables cheap, video borescopes can be much cheaper and potentially better resolution (depending on the specifications of the camera). Fees for high end video borescopes can range from about $ 10,000 to $ 50,000 depending on the manufacturer, selection and specification.
